Gravel Calculators turns the measurements of a path, patio, driveway, drain or bed into the numbers a stone supplier asks for: cubic yards, tons and bags.
How we work out the numbers
Every calculator uses the same basic steps: area × depth gives volume, volume ÷ 27 gives cubic yards, and cubic yards × the stone’s weight gives tons. The weights we use are typical figures for dry, loose stone as published by aggregate suppliers, and each page says which figure it uses.
Real stone varies. Rock type, size, moisture and how much dust is in the load all change the weight of a cubic yard. That is why every result is an estimate, and why we suggest confirming quantities with the supplier who will deliver your stone.
What we don’t do
- We don’t sell gravel or take commissions from suppliers.
- We don’t publish national price averages, because stone and delivery prices vary too much by region to be useful. Our cost pages show you how to calculate a budget from your own local quotes.
